Nakorn24 is a Laotian who want to be Thai.
He must be really ashame of being Laotian.
How many Laotian in here that are claiming themselves to be Thai?
I guess Laos must be so unpopular among it's people. Unlike us, Khmer, we are proud of ourselves and our country, and that's how Khmer we are. We are not try to be Chinese or Vietnamese, and that's the good thing about us, Khmer.

I think Thais call Khmer as "Khom" because the word "Khom" comes from the word "Kam" buja combined with Mera = Kamera = Khemera= ខមរា= ខេមរា. King Kambuja and Queen Mera.
Remember Thai speaking is tonal; Thais cant use the sub-vowel like Khmer do no tonal
speaking.

Sisowat, You are right, but i think; it was named different after one generation to another.

Actually all of your explanation for the term 'Khom' is wrong, although it makes sense. The term 'Khom,' if you can read and write in Khmer, is a combination of two letters: the letter 'Khor' for Khmer, and the letter 'Mhor' for Mon. The combination of these two letters produced the short sound "Khom," instead of having to pronounce Khmer-Mon all the time.

Thats also very plausable that the Thai word Khom may have derived from Kampuchea, with Kam pronounced as Kham or Khom.

After listening to King Sihamoni pronunciation the word Kampuchea in Khmer I think the word Khom that Thais called Khmers is came from the word "Kam"-puchea.

You are also right, Mon-Khmer is the english literation and if I remember a long time ago a theory of the word Khom the Thai used to refer to Angkorian Khmers which came from the word Khmer-Mon. |
