this video explains EXACTLY how i feel about religion hahaha. I still dont understand how people can "follow" something they dont even know exists. I dont get it. but whatever, its not for me, but christians will be crazy about god for forever. I am so over it. Jesus Camp was a ridiculous movie and gave me even more reason to NOT beleive in the BULLshit.

this is the problem. the chances of it being wrong and that an alternative THAT WE KNOW OF being correct are small. obviously not all avenues are possible (which is why i said "open to all possible avenues"), but there may be some avenues that we have not even considered that could be responsible. you are effectively repeating what i'm saying minus a few key words. i never said it wasn't truth (as far as we know, it is), i said it isn't technically fact. truth is subjective, fact is objective.

That all well in good. But not all avenues are possible. There has to be a cut off point of plausibility. For the diversity of life the answer is clearly explained through evolution. The chances of it being wrong are so small that to consider it other then truth is just silly.

something coming from nothing isn't impossible, only beyond our knowledge. it could be impossible; but then it could also be possible, but impossible for us to understand; or possible but we as a species haven't discovered how yet, and possibly never will! :p but you're right, it need not be anything to do with religion. however some people believe that religion holds the answers to existence and creation. that is their choice, in the same way that following jesus is your choice.

then why do people dedicate their lives to gain more and more knowledge? universities have existed for centuries attempting to better the knowledge of the human species. and because there can always be "new light" on all subjects, universities will continue to exist. just because it isn't fact doesn't mean it isn't the truth. it just makes no sense arguing over things if nothing is set in stone. i try to remain open to all possible avenues! :P

Why doesn't every one quit saying the word "religion". For me, it has nothing to do with "religion". Its realizing that our universe didn't come from nothing, because that is impossible, and finding out what is out there. If anyone thinks that makes me psycho or irrational, then fine. I follow Jesus, and not because everyone else does, because you'll be surprised to find not a whole lot actually truly follow him.
misterwigggles (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Isn't that vacuous statement. The fact that a theory isn't closed off does account that there can always be new light on the subject. However human do not need absolute knowledge to to seek truth. Any truth beyond us is be default in scope is a none issue and does not need time dwelled upon it.

they are a concept or idea. theories are based on facts to provide a logical explanation for trends seen in observable and measurable phenomena. however they are based on limited human knowledge, and so there is always the possibility that something as yet undiscovered or suggested could be responsible for said trends.

If they aren't factual then what the point of them?
How can come something contain facts, be used to predict other facts, explains facts not be factual? |
