There's a lot in this that they couldn't have done easily with live actors, and you would probably have laughed at them anyway. You also probably missed that they could do caricatures of the opponents this way, have an elephant beating the drum, etc. And note that not only shooting the scenes would be difficult, but editing--videotape hadn't even been invented yet.
