The song is about confusion ("smoke glass stain bright color") and faith in one's self in crowds (the "prize that waits" is retreating from the world). "Tropic" is used to complement circular imagery ("round round round") and Galahad is a symbol of purity, courage, and truth (someone who "believed" in himself). The Tin Man doesn't believe he has a heart, even though he really does. Bunnell felt like a hollow Tin Man.
Don't ask me to explain the "soapsuds." I think he was high.
